Your never off duty as a First Responder or First Aider. This was very much the case last week, as John Lane was being taken home in the ambulance following a volunteer shift for lifeline ambulance C.I.C. By John Gilmour Lifeline Co-Director.
At approximately 17:30pm the ambulance was flagged down by members of the community as they had an elderly lady collapsed and sustained a head injury.
Mr Lane, who has recently completed his FREC3 course in Emergency Care performed an initial assessment of the incident and promptly provided emergency first aid to the lady by cleaning and dressing the wound which required further assessment and treatment for wound closure at the local emergency department.
Family members of the casualty were in attendance and took the lady to the local emergency department after they thanked the quick response and treatment provided by MR Lane.
John found the experience easy to handle due to his recent training and his new found confidence.
